Barcelona Crowned Champions, Real Madrid Finish Second

Atletico Madrid Secure Third Spot

The 2016-17 La Liga season came to a thrilling conclusion on Sunday, with Barcelona crowned champions after a 3-1 victory over Deportivo Alaves. Real Madrid finished second, despite a 2-0 win over Malaga, while Atletico Madrid secured third spot with a 3-1 triumph at Eibar.

Barcelona dominated the league from start to finish, finishing with 90 points, 12 ahead of second-placed Real Madrid. The Catalan giants were led by Lionel Messi, who scored 37 goals in the league, while Luis Suarez and Neymar also contributed heavily.

Real Madrid had a disappointing season by their standards, but still managed to finish second. The defending champions were plagued by injuries and inconsistent form, but they showed their quality in the Champions League, where they won the trophy for the 12th time.

Atletico Madrid finished third, 16 points behind Barcelona. The Colchoneros were consistent throughout the season and were rewarded with a place in next season's Champions League.

At the other end of the table, Osasuna and Granada were relegated to the Segunda Division. Malaga and Sporting Gijon finished in 18th and 19th place, meaning they will play in a relegation playoff.

The 2016-17 La Liga season was one of the most exciting in recent memory. Barcelona proved once again that they are the best team in Spain, while Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid showed that they are still a force to be reckoned with. The 2017-18 season promises to be just as exciting, with all three teams hoping to challenge for the title.
